Strongman competition July 30
The Big Island Substance Abuse Council will be sponsoring its fourth annual strongman competition July 30 at Edith Kanaka’ole Multipurpose Stadium as part of its yearly Summer Jam Festival.
The competition is sanctioned by North American Strongman, and this year there are lightweight (220 pounds and below) and heavyweight (more than 220) divisions.
The competition starts at 7 a.m. Weigh-ins are 6 p.m. July 29 at Resolution Gym.

Brantley Center golf benefit
Brantley Center, Inc. is holding its 38th annual golf tournament July 17 at Big Island Country Club.
Check-in is at 7:15 a.m. for an 8 a.m. shotgun start in a two-person best-ball format.
The entry fee of $125 includes green fees, three mulligans, door prizes and a luncheon. A hole-in-one wins $10,000.

Honokaa taking applications
Honokaa High School is accepting applications for varsity head coaches for: soccer, basketball, wrestling, swimming, and canoe paddling.
The school is also looking for assistants.
Applications will be available at the school’s main office from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, and the deadline to apply June
Applications can be turned in to main office or the athletic director’s office, located in the gym.

Sea-to-Stars bike race registration now open
Registration is now open for state’s most challenging road bike race, the Sea-to-Stars, which will be held on Aug. 6, starting at Waikoloa Beach and Sports at the Queen’s Shops in Waikoloa. This race takes cyclists from sea level at the Big Island’s Waikoloa Resort area up to an elevation of more than 9,200 feet near the Visitor Information Center on Mauna Kea, where the paved highway ends.
